San Antonio: The Alamo and Riverwalk

Jackie and Michelle left the kids behind for an adult day in San Antonio. We first headed to the Alamo, listened to the speaker telling us the story of the Alamo as well as Jim Bowie (with his knife). Then we walked around the grounds seeing the many artifacts, the beautiful trees and gardens, and just enjoying the spirit of the historic place.

We were so amazed at this cool tree and how it just branched out in all different directions.

This is in front of the church at the Alamo site. We enjoyed going inside and seeing the 4 foot thick walls and some of the original artifacts. The flags inside listed what country the defenders of the Alamo were from and how many died there. Apparently, there was a Welshman there.

Looking down at the San Antonio River. The Riverwalk is actually down below this, so that's where we headed. After walking along for a little while, we decided to stop for lunch at the Rainforest Cafe. We had great salads, drinks and the waiter kept us company for a little while. We ate outside where we could watch the people walking by and the boats on the river.
After lunch, we headed down to where the boats depart for the tour. The tour was only $7.75 per person and it showed us a lot of the area. It was really interesting and fun. I can't wait to take the kids down there and do it with them.

Right at the end of the tour, we saw this bird in the tree. There was so much vegetation and wildlife along the river tour that it was like being at the zoo. It was a lot of fun.
