My Birthday Gift

So, as if getting older wasn't bad enough, this year my birthday brought the gift of wearing glasses. To quote the optometrist when I mentioned that I was squinting to see further away, "Well, you're getting older". "THANKS!"
So, here's the new me. The family still looks at me strangely, and when I happen to see myself in the mirror, it shocks me that they are there. Next year this time, I'm sure I won't even think about it anymore, but for now, it feels weird. I keep wanting to take them off when I go indoors, as if they were sunglasses.
